Michael McFadyen's Scuba Diving - Kovuhika Island
Kovuhika Island is a small island located in the Florida Islands group of the Solomon Islands. Accessed for diving purposes from Maravagi Resort, the island is about a 10 minute run away.
The dive here is a drift dive. The main spot is on the eastern side of the island. We entered the water at the south-east corner and drifted north. At first there was a wall and then a slope of broken coral. The current was with us all the way.
After a while there is a large L shaped gutter into the reef wall. This is interesting to examine for a few minutes. We saw a few sharks along this, including one large grey reef shark and one whitetip reef shark. We also saw two clown triggerfish. There were some nice sponges and gorgonias.
Visibility was a bit varied, from 15 to 30 metres. Water temperature about 28°C.
