    Old Bottles
Since I first started diving in the 1980s, I have collected bottles that I have found when diving. I have not done this as a primary aim of my diving (ie I have never done a dive just to collect bottles). Any bottles collected have been a by-product of a dive to see a wreck or marine life.

While a lot of the bottles are not in real good condition, they are still of interest to me to provide a memory of my dives. When we moved to our new house in 2007, Kelly and I purchased a side cabinet that that now houses the better bottles out of the collection.

The following is a sample of the bottles that we have.

    Notes:

  • # means a symbol of some sort
  • [xx] means xx is what I believe it says
  • [??] means I cannot read what it says

Comment: J. McCarthy & Co still operates in Sydney. They are still in the hospitality business, today wholesaling glasses to pubs etc. It seems this bottle was made for them by Australian Glass Manufacturers. They then sold them to various companies/hotels who then filled them with rum and sold under their own label. I have seen an example where it is badged as Tooth & Co but bottled by the Coogee Bay Hotel.

If you have any more information about these bottles, especially the ones I have not identified or the Carr-Pal bottle, please email me by clicking on Contact Me from the menus.
